A Native of Southern California, Dustin Chilson is a graduate of East Carolina University where he received a master’s degree in tuba performance with a concentration in conducting and the University of Arizona where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and Tuba Performance. Mr. Chilson has studied with several notable musicians during his schooling, including Dr. Scott Carter, Tom McCaslin, Dr. Kelly Thomas, and Mike Becker.
During his time at the University, Mr. Chilson had ample performing opportunities which included winning solo/duet competitions and auditioning for several professional ensembles including The President’s Own United States Marine Band, the Newark Symphony Orchestra, and the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. In addition to performing, Mr. Chilson is an active participant in his community as a volunteer and a certified music educator. He also works for several Tucson high school marching bands and gives private lessons for low brass students in the area.
This year, Mr. Chilson is very excited to help your student develop a lifelong love of music. Mr. Chilson has three years of classroom middle school band teaching experience, three years of college-level graduate teaching experience, and seven years of marching band teaching experience.
Dr. Dave Walton, Assistant Director of Bands
Dr. Dave Walton is a currently a freelance musician in Tucson, Arizona, performing with an eclectic mix of music ensembles. He is past Principal Timpanist and Principal Percussionist with the Acadiana, the Lake Charles, and the Rapides Symphonies of Louisiana, as well performing with numerous regional symphony orchestras around the country. In addition, he also performed and recorded with the chamber music quartet Pastiche. Recent performances include performing as either Timpanist or Percussionist with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, the Arizona Opera, the Tucson Pops Orchestra, Arts Express, the Arizona Theater Company, The Invisible Theater, Arizona Onstage Productions, the Beowulf Alley Theater and several touring Broadway productions, including national tours of Hairspray, 42nd Street, The Full Monty, and Dr. Dolittle.
In addition, he performs regularly as a steel drum artist with Steel del Sol, and he plays bass, percussion or drum set with a varied number of pop, jazz, and salsa groups including Reno del Mar, Salsarengue, Combo Unica, and many others. Dr. Walton is a graduate of the University of Arizona, and performs on all manner of orchestral, popular, ethnic/world percussion and electric bass. He teaches part time at both the Gregory School and Orange Middle School.
